LIFE IN PRAGUE: Best brunch places in Prague
By: Lizaveta Bykava
Hey there, my name is Lisa and I will modestly call myself the brunch and VŠE ambassador at the same time.
Imagine, you wake up on a lazy Saturday morning around 10 AM somewhere in late Spring, when Prague is finally warm after what feels like a forever winter period. You’ve worked hard the whole week on your studies and have a load of work to yet catch up with, however, before that you deserve some self-love. You text your friends: “Let’s go for brunch” and start getting ready. Life is good. Then your friends text you back saying, “let’s go, but where?” and this is the moment, you will recall this blog post. Below will be my personal top 3 brunch places in Prague and where you have a high chance of seeing me during the weekends:
Marthy’s kitchen (Francouzská 13, 120 00 Praha 2-Vinohrady; Masarykovo nábř. 2016/6, 120 00 Nové Město)
Most likely if you look on Google Maps for brunch places, this will be the first one to pop up since it will be one of the most popular places. This comes with consequences – like many brunch places in Prague, no way you can book a table beforehand, so most likely, you will be waiting outside for a sometime (10-15 minutes).
Here you will find the classics that will not disappoint you portion size and taste wise:
- Eggs Benedict with Salmon (my personal all-time favorite)
- English Breakfast
- Eggs Florentine
- Salmon Cream Cheese Bagel
- Any coffee you can think of
- … & more.
Accompanied with mimosas (different flavors even!) is the perfect combination.
Also many deserts to choose from, don’t be shy, take some while they are still there!
The atmosphere in the place is casual chill, nothing to fancy, feels like you are at somebody’s apartment who has taste. Price wise is average. Eggs Benedict with Salmon and mimosas will be around 300 CZK.
Sweet and pepper days (Anglická 390/19, 120 00 Praha 2-Vinohrady)
This brunch place is just around the corner of my apartment, so the waiters here know me by name already. This place seems small; however they manage to fit in a lot of people – great area management I guess 😀 You can book an advance on weekdays, on weekends not so much. This place has fewer options to choose from for brunch than Marthy’s kitchen, yet it is rather unusual. Have you ever tried butterfly latte and deep-fried avocado? Something like this you will find here:
Price-wise I would say it is 2 EUR above other brunch places, my assumption would be it is because of location. Located in the heart of Prague between National Muzeum and Nardoni Miru – perfect for after brunch walk. It is more fancy than the other 2 brunch places described here, so maybe skip on that sporty outift.
Bistro 8 Vinohrady (Ondříčkova 22, 130 00 Vinohrady)
As a big group, we would always gather at Bistro 8 where you can book even during weekends for up to 10 people. Probably the only place I know that would book for a big group on weekends. They serve breakfasts all day, so even the night owls who only have breakfast whilst others are finishing lunch will find this place as a good fit.
The prices are a little lower than in the very center, yet the food and portion size is very pleasing. You can choose from:
- Hummus and avocado toasts
- Israeli shakshuka (eggs in tomato pasta – delicious!)
- English breakfast
- Big toasts
- Banana panckaes
- … & more
Coffee portions are satisfying, they bring it in big cups and many variants to choose from, but how would I know? I always get an interesting mimosa for myself J The atmosphere is very chill and cosy, nothing fancy and extravagant, just what you need for a calm morning.
Summary
I love Prague for the vast variety of brunch places to choose from, I can recall 10+ more places I can recommend for you. Some specialize in waffles or other have the best French breakfast with freshly bakes croissants – feel free to contact me and I will advise to my best knowledge.
Enjoy!
