Exploring Dining Options at VSE
It is apparent that the students usually don’t have enough time for proper meals because of their course loads. That is why it is essential to have easily accessible points around the university to grab something quickly. In this blog, I will introduce all the places you can find to eat at the VSE campus.
The first and most well-known place to eat at the university is Menza Italska, the student cafeteria located right next to the entry of the Rajska Building. I have had lunch there more than a few times and have been satisfied with the quality and prices. My go-to meal at the canteen is chicken fillets with stewed vegetables and fries. The weekly menu, where you can see daily meals and prices, gets posted every Monday. You can also choose one of the ‘special’ meals such as burgers with fries. In addition, there are drink and dessert options to choose from. On average, the full meal, which includes a main dish and a side, costs around 100 CZK (don’t forget to present your ISIC card for the discount). You might face lines during lunch hours, so be quick to get there immediately after the class ends. If you are a strict diet follower or a pizza lover, you need to also check out the Pizza Veget canteen, located right next to the Menza Italska. The weekly offers (also can be checked out online) include vegetarian meals, with ingredients like tofu, and medium-sized pizzas for only 90 CZK!
Other main non-Menza facilities to grab food at the campus are the Academic Club and the Umbrella restaurant. Both offer a higher selection of meals, although they are in a higher price range. The Academic Club restaurant is located on the third floor of the Italska building and mainly has traditional dishes. For instance, you can get roast duck with red cabbage for 160 CZK. The Umbrella restaurant is located next to the entrance of the New Building. The menu focuses on pizzas, as opposed to the traditional meals in the Academic Club restaurant. Unfortunately, neither of these restaurants has discounts for students.
If you want to grab a cup of hot coffee or a sandwich on the go, I recommend checking out the Cafe Bar Economy, facing the ISIC card counter. They also offer a variety of tasty desserts like cheesecakes. But keep in mind to have some cash with you as they don’t accept cards. It is also an ideal place to have group meetings or work on a project together with your classmates. However, my favourite place to grab something quick is classic vending machines. There are several of them throughout the campus filled with snacks and drinks. The newly constructed “fresh point” machine in the New Building also has healthy sandwiches, salads, and desserts.
In essence, the VSE campus offers a range of meal options, ensuring that students can easily find a meal or snack that suits their preferences, budgets, and time constraints. This diversity in food choices not only addresses the practical needs of students but also contributes to the overall student experience at the university.
