Affordable Road Trip Tips for Exploring Czechia
If you’ve got a driver’s license and some adventurous friends willing to join you on a road trip through the Czech Republic, you’re in for a treat! There are plenty of fascinating places to explore. While some of these spots may be a bit tricky to reach by trains or buses, the upside is that they’re often less crowded.
Until recently, Prague had a car-sharing service with affordable prices tailored to students. Unfortunately, it closed down this year. But fear not, there are still numerous budget-friendly options available, just slightly more expensive than traveling by train or bus with your buddies.
You can scout for budget-friendly cars on HoppyGo, a service that stands out because it connects you directly with private car owners, cutting out middlemen and lowering the overall cost. You can snag a car for an entire weekend for around 1000-2000 Czech crowns. Keep in mind that fuel costs are not included in the rental price, so if you’re traveling with three friends, you’re looking at around 500 crowns per person – that’s roughly the cost of a single meal at a café.

If you plan to exceed this limit, you’ll need to pay an additional fee.

Czechia is a stunning country with a plethora of places to explore. If you’re a mountain enthusiast, I highly recommend a visit to Sněžka. Located approximately 200 kilometers from Prague, it boasts unparalleled views. Sněžka is the highest point in the entire country and serves as a popular ski resort. You can reach the summit via a cable car starting from the town of Pec pod Sněžkou, and the ski season spans several months. Situated on the border with Poland, it stands tall at an impressive 1602 meters.
To enhance your trip, consider a visit to Bohemian Switzerland National Park. This park features numerous well-marked hiking trails. The park’s modern and awe-inspiring landscape is characterized by sandstone formations that have been shaped by the forces of wind, rivers, temperature fluctuations, and more, resulting in breathtaking cliffs, rock towers, canyons, and arches. One of its most renowned attractions is the Pravčická brána, also known as the Pravčická Gate.
In Bohemian Switzerland National Park, you can enjoy activities like cycling, horseback riding, and rock climbing in designated areas, and you can even spend the night at official camping sites. This means you can embark on this fantastic journey with your friends over a single weekend. 🙂 But remember, these are just a few of the incredible destinations in the Czech Republic – there are plenty more waiting to be discovered.
