Alexandra’s summer 2021

Summer 2021

This summer was a lot different from all my previous summers. And that’s because I have decided not to take a break and learn new things instead. Ow yup and decided to have an operation of my knee as well 😅. So overall, I have found a corporate job, learned a lot of Data Analytics, read a lot of interesting books, listened to a lot of Tim Ferris podcasts on my way to work and started doing workouts again. Even though it was a grinding summer for me, I am planning to go on a vacation soon as a reward. I have also got vaccinated (as a lot of you I presume) and tried out many great Prague restaurants with amazing food (such as Cafefin coffee)

Altogether, I am beyond satisfied with my summer and excited for the semester to come (hopefully offline this time).

Where To?

My name is Alexandra Pappova, I am 19 years old and I originally come from Slovakia, but I also have Hungarian-Czech origins. I had the opportunity of growing up in France. Since going back to Slovakia I have continued my English studies with Cambridge curriculums. My dream was to find a university either in France or in UK, where I thought I could best fit in with my international background.

In my final years of high-school studies, I have successfully finished my A-level Cambridge curriculum alongside the obliged Slovak “Maturita” when I noticed that my time with mere responsibility and high-school life is quickly diminishing. Therefore, I was determined to find a university to my hearts liking. UK seemed like the best option, however one day I thought why not look at some closer universities. I remember the day, I was laughing at how desperate I seemed to myself, as I believed that Czech Republic can never provide me with the level of education that I am aiming for. I was quickly proved wrong. I found out VSE has the specific program I was looking for (International Business Bachelor) which was even taught in English. I certainly felt bad about being ignorant of the options in Czech Republic. Therefore, I applied, wrote an essay, had an interview and here I am. I believe I have made the best decision I could have.

Honestly, at the beginning I didn’t have high expectations regarding the quality of courses taught in English. Currently my doubts have changed into a long list called “interesting courses for future semesters”. Believe me when I say that now my only doubts are if I’ll have enough time to attend them all.

Being someone who wants the best of everything, for a while I have been in contact with the international office considering my options for a future exchange to Paris – my second dream. VSE’s networks astonish me to such an extent even today, like by the time it takes to find the word France in VSE’s list of partner universities. Due to this network of universities and companies, if I am being honest, I couldn’t have found a better university to study International Business.

If you are a hard-working student and worry about the quality of education offered in Central Europe like I was then I hope my story can be an eye opener for everyone. I certainly would have appreciated this advice at my high school.
