June 22 – Prof. Jean Tirole Will Receive Honorary Doctorate from VŠE

Professor Jean Tirole, a visiting professor at the prestigious American University of MIT, will receive an honorary doctorate on June 22, 2022 at the Prague University of Economics and Business. Professor Tirole is a world-renowned expert in industrial organization theory, game theory, regulation, finance, macroeconomics, banking and, last but not least, behavioral economics. In 2014, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for his research focused on analyzes of the market power and regulation of large companies.

The Honorary Doctorate is awarded by the Prague University of Economics and Business to distinguished representatives of Czech and international science and practice, especially in economics. On the proposal of the Scientific Board of the Faculty of International Relations, the Scientific Board of the Prague University of Economics and Business decided to award the title of “Doctor oeconomiae honoris causa” to Professor Jean Tirole. The ceremony will take place in Vencovského aula on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 16:00. Professor Tirole will give a lecture during the ceremony.

Professor Jean Tirole is the honorary president of the JJ Laffont-Toulouse Foundation at the School of Economics (TSE) and the scientific director of the TSE-Partnership research institute. He is a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Professor Jean Tirole has published more than two hundred articles in top international journals and is the author of twelve monographs. His latest book, Economics for the Common Good, was published in English in 2017. This professional publication is for sale and has been translated into many languages. Prof. Jean Tirole has won a number of international awards, including the CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research) gold medal.
