Where to go in spring around Czech Republic?

As the summer semester slowly approaches, it is time to plan not only your study calendar, but also your travel calendar! Whether you are an exchange student or home student at VŠE it is always a great idea to grab a couple of friends for a day trip around the beautiful country of Czech Republic. In this blogpost, I will share several inspirational places you could visit.

Tisá rocks labyrinth

A beloved place for tens of thousands all tourists and locals annually, who come to admire the beauty of one of the most picturesque sights in the region. Hiking inside the sandstone labyrinth of Tiské Stěny brings you to the magic land of the Chronicles of Narnia. However, discovering Tiské Stěny is not so challenging, like in the movie. It’s a very easy hiking trip suitable for almost everybody.

Tisá lies in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains Nature Preserve, 20 km from the regional capital, Ústí nad Labem, and 5 km from Petrovice village, where there is a border crossing to Germany. It is about a one hour drive from Prague to the north. You can also travel by bus or train to the closest city – Ústí nad Labem – and then take a local bus to the National Park.

Česky Krumlov

In the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, about 2 hours away from Prague by car and 3 hours by a direct train, you will get to experience the medieval masterpiece that is Česky Krumlov. In the renowned UNESCO town you got quaint houses, cobblestone streets, a grand castle that overlooks the valley and the calm Vltava river. The city is very popular for a weekend trip to enjoy the city, good food, and rafting in the river.

The city is very popular for a weekend trip to enjoy the city, good food, and rafting in the river. However, I went for a day-trip as a romantic getaway and it was just right to see the main attractions the city has to offer. Many sightseeing points with scenic views that will take your breath away…

Karlovy Vary

A spa town since the 19th century, Karlovy Vary is home to many hot springs that are supposed to have restorative properties. Spas and wellness centers around here, offering everything from classic massages to cupping to curative baths.

From my experience, a one day trip to get to know the city is great. You will see the city is surrounded by mountains, which serve as a good hiking for beginners. Many websites will recommend to use the funicular to get to a viewpoint to see Karlovy Vary as at the palm of your hand, but I wouldn’t recommend to stand the line and pay for it, when you can admire the nature on your way up… plus, it will be much more rewarding! At the very top there is also a butterfly garden, where you can see many different gorgeous butterflies all in one place no matter the season.

Now… grab your friends, a good mood and hit the road!
